M19 bakkie driver dies in hospital
Elmarie Bowden described her son, Danie Flemming, as headstrong, full of life and an incredible person with a good heart.
THE bakkie driver who was critically injured in a collision involving three vehicles on the M19 yesterday, died in hospital yesterday evening.
He was identified as Danie Flemming. Danie grew up in Cape Town but later moved to the Bluff and then Queensburgh where he lived with his girlfriend, Cayleen Lockey.
His mother, Elmarie Bowden described him as headstrong, full of life and an incredible person with a very good heart.
‘Danie was a keen bodybuilder. He also enjoyed gym and rugby – he played for the Harlequins Rugby Club in the Bluff.
He posted a melancholic status on his Facebook page yesterday at about 8am:
“Missing Grandpa terribly today! Still can’t believe Grandpa that you are not here on your Birthday to spend the day with us. Words just can’t describe how much I miss you Grandpa and how much I wish I could just give you a hug, but I know Grandpa you are looking down at me from Heaven. Sometimes I can feel how close you are to me, and I know I will see you again one day, you are my hero and my everything! I Miss You, Happy Birthday Grandpa.” – [This quote was translated from the original post].
He was critically injured after the vehicle he was travelling in collided with a truck on the M19 Durban bound just after the Dunkeld Road on-ramp around 10am.
Bowden said the birthday message Danie posted earlier in the day for his oupa was so meaningful and so deep.
“He adored his oupa so much and always thought so highly of him. We are all devastated at his loss,” said Bowden.
She said that Danie will be sorely missed by a lot of people.
Danie worked as a installations manager at Spode Storage Solutions in Durban. His manager, Brian Habbick, said he had known Danie for a long time and he helped him grow with the company to be a huge influence within the company, his life and the people around him. He also considered him to be a “large little brother”.
Danie is survived by his mom, Elmarie Bowden, dad Clive Flemming and stepmom Cayleen Flemming, sister Liana Flemming, two half sisters, Cheyenne and Cassidy and half brother, Colby as well as his girlfriend, Cayleen Lockey.
