Strong swimmers dominate at WSPS’s gala

WSPS old boy, Sebastian Crawford, a South African para athlete was the guest of honour at the 55th annual Inter-house swimming gala.

WESTVILLE Senior Primary School made a splash at the 55th annual Inter-house Gala on Friday, 3 February.

A slightly overcast and warm summer morning provided the perfect setting for the 55th Annual WSPS Interhouse Swimming Gala, and the talented team of WSPS teachers made the most of the opportunity to coordinate another memorable event.

The spirit of the supporting children and parents created a festive environment and inspired our swimmers to produce some excellent results. The fierce competition between the houses was matched only by the camaraderie between children, staff and parents on a day when the sounds of laughter and war cries filled the air.

The school staff congratulated Atholl House for their dominant performance and being the worthy winners of the house trophy on the day. Westville House were the highly motivated winners of the Spirit Trophy.

Winner of the Victor Ludorum, Luca Holtzhausen, smashed three individual records on the day, and was also part of the record breaking relay team. His performances were a clear reminder of why he is part of the South African team travelling to Egypt to participate at the Cana Junior Africa Championships.

The Victrix Ludorum, Tatum Botha, produced excellent performances to rise above the competition.

Special thanks were extended to the guest of honour and WSPS old boy, Sebastian Crawford, South African para athlete and current holder of the gold medal at the National Championships in the P3 class. The school will be following his progress towards Japan and the 2020 Paralympics with great interest.
