Highbury learners set enviro benchmark

A team of Grade 7 learners from Highway Preparatory School will ensure an area along St Margaret Road remains neat and eco-friendly.

LEARNERS from Highbury Preparatory School have adopted and revitalised an area, one of the ongoing projects of the Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association (KHBA).

In September last year, a group of Highbury mums and gardeners landscaped an area along St Margaret Road and provided a bench which is utilised by the community. The area is maintained by Highbury boys and staff and were all delighted to contribute to this worthwhile initiative. As part of a new initiative, Grade 7 boys at Highbury Preparatory School have been allocated leadership roles.

“As a Platinum Eco-School, Highbury has the environment close to its heart. Our 11 hectare estate has only been planting indigenous plants and trees for more than 10 years now and we are constantly clearing alien invasive species,” explained Des Dunstone, the enviro co-ordinator at Highbury Preparatory School.

Lynn Templeman of the KHBA said she was extremely grateful to the school for embarking on the project to install and maintain the area around the bench.
