Robber killed in Westville shoot-out

The man was found in possession of a firearm that was taken during a house robbery in Dunoon Place.

AN alleged robber was killed during a shoot-out with police last night in Kirriemuir Road, Westville.
Westville SAPS communications officer, Capt Elizabeth Squires said a vigilant resident was driving in Kirriemuir Road on Thursday night when she saw a group of men entering a house.
”The woman, who was aware of the new Metro Satellite Station in Westville North, immediately drove there to report her observations,” Capt Squires said.
Meanwhile, the owner of the house and his family who were in the car, were stopped by a man who pointed a gun at him when he drove into his yard at 9.35pm.
“Another four men emerged from the side of the house all wearing balaclavas and gloves.
“They held up the family at gunpoint and forced them into the garage while they went into the house. The alarm was activated and within seconds, Metro Police, arrived on scene,” said Squires.
During a shoot-out bwteen Metro Police and the men, one of the alleged robbers was killed and found in possession of a firearm that was taken during a house robbery in Dunoon Place last month.
“A cellphone, wallet and firearm were recovered,” added Squires.
A case of house robbery was opened and is being investigated by Pinetown Trio Task Team.
