PICS: St Lizzies heroes to the rescue

The Everyday Hero event was hosted to raise funds for the St Martins Diocesan Home for Children.

ST Elizabeth’s (St Lizzies) Pre-School children dressed up as their favourite heroes to support the St Martins Diocesan Home for Children. This was a charity event and children had to pay a donation to dress up and each child received an “Everyday Hero” badge.

St Lizzies is the first school to host the Everyday Hero event, and Debbie Weppelman, fund-raising coordinator for St Martins Everyday Hero said she hopes that this would be an annual fund-raiser for many schools in Durban.

She thanked the principal of St Lizzies, Trish Oom, for agreeing to host the first Everyday Hero day. Oom said St Elizabeth’s Pre-Primary school has a charity collection each Friday morning where one of the Grade R children is on collection duty (fondly known to the children as ‘piggy duty’).

“We like to use this money to support charities that assist children.

Today, we had a special collection for St Martin’s Children’s Home where the children had to come dressed as their favourite superhero. We all had a fun time and raised R1 673.”
