Windvogel to tackle dumping in ward 65
The councillor said they have had instances where dumping would resume just a day after an area was cleaned up.
ILLEGAL dumping is an issue ward 65 councillor, Samantha Windvogel, wants to address this year. She said naming and shaming might be the best solution to permanently get rid of this problem.
“We have big problems when it comes to dumping. I want to tackle illegal dumping in the area. I want to make sure those areas are cleaned and erect no dumping signs and then make an example out of someone who is doing it and shame them,” she said.
The councillor said they have had instances where dumping would resume just a day after an area was cleaned up. Windvogel appeals to residents to tell her about problems.
“The community assists me by informing me of issues. Particularly in Hillary, they added me on a WhatsApp group and share their complaints. It’s looking good, it’s promising. I encourage other residents and neighbourhood watches of ward 65 to be proactive and create groups where this kind of information can be shared and I will pass it forward to council,” she said.
According to Windvogel, matters reported had a 95 per cent success rate and she believes that ratepayers are supposed to get service delivery when and as it is needed.
“I will do the best that I can, the rest is up to the community to work with me and for council to deliver. I’m really optimistic about this year, things are looking good. Trees and verges are also things I’ll monitor closely to make sure they get cut on time,” she said.
