One killed, six injured in M7 accidents

Rescue Care paramedics have urged residents to drive responsibly in wet weather conditions.

WET weather conditions kept Rescue Care paramedics busy as they treated multiple people on the M7 on Sunday, 5 and Monday, 6 February.

“Three collisions on the M7 going towards Pinetown resulted in a death and six people injured with two sustaining serious injuries. On Sunday evening, paramedics were called to the M7 west-bound before the Main Road off-ramp after a taxi rolled just before 11pm. On arrival, they found that the taxi had rolled before coming to rest on its wheels,” said operations director, Garrith Jamieson.

The driver died before paramedics could arrive and he was declared dead at the scene. A passenger had moderate injuries and was stabilised at the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital.

On Monday morning, paramedics again responded to an accident on the M7 west-bound near Winston Churchill off-ramp just after 9.20am. “On arrival, they found that a car travelling east-bound had overturned and crossed over the centre medium onto the west-bound carriageway colliding with another car. One car came to rest on its roof. A total of four patients were stabilised at the scene before being transported to various hospitals,” said Jamieson.

Later on the same day at around 11.30am, paramedics responded to an accident on the M7 west-bound before Main road. Two cars were involved in a collision before one overturned.

“One patient was treated at the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital. Rescue Care paramedics urged the public to drive responsibly on wet roads. Leave earlier to allow for any traffic disruptions along the way,” said Jamieson.
