Golfers swing away for good cause

The Mulligan Mules challenge Highway teams to match or better a donation of R4 000 to a charity of their choice.

A GROUP of avid golfers took to the greens and raised R4 000 for a frail care unit in New Germany and now challenge other golfers to match or beat their donation.

The groups chairman, Cameron Hall, said the Mulligan Mules were a small golfing group of about 50 members from the Highway area that play once a month at different courses ín Durban and Pietermaritzburg.

It was due to the large gap between the group’s December and January games, the Mulligan Mules chose to add an annual charity day event.

“Members can get out and play a game of golf but also raise some money for a worthy charity at the same time,” said Cameron.

This year’s charity is the frail care unit at the Altersheim Port Natal Retirement Home.

“On this occasion, the Mulligan Mules raised R4 000 which was donated to the home. In addition to the cash raised, biscuits, juice and popcorn to the value of more than R600 was donated to the home for afternoon tea or morning snacks,” said Cameron.

The Mulligan Mules have not yet decided on their charity for 2018 but challenged other golfing groups in the Highway area to match or better their donation to a charity of their choice.

“At the end of the day, everyone benefits as the golfers have a great day out and the charity receives the funds that are raised,” said Cameron.
