SIX months later, and Durban Solid Waste has still not fulfilled its promise to resume its delivery of the orange recycle bags. Durban Solid Waste (DSW) confirmed it did experience a shortage of bags from the supplier at the end of August last year, however, had rectified the matter. It said stocks were being delivered to residents as they came out of production.
However, some residents claimed they have still not received their recycling bags to date.
Residents also raised concerns about the non-operational contact numbers issued to them to report non-delivery of the orange recycling bags.
“When we call the numbers, they just ring or when answered we are told to contact another number. Not a single person at DSW seems to know what is going on or can address this issue,” said a resident, who wanted to remain anonymous.
Neeri Moodley, communications officer at DSW said they are taking every step to ensure that residents have sufficient orange and clear bags to continue with the recycling programme.
“Residents can also use the clear bags to recycle the paper, plastic, tetra-pak, polystyrene, cardboard, cans and glass. If residents are using the clear bags to recycling paper, plastic, polystyrene and cardboard they need to use a separate clear bag for the cans and glass. Please ensure that all recyclables are clean and dry before placing in the bags. The collection will take place on the normal collection day,” said Moodley.
