Police raid Pinetown hotspots

Two people were arrested for possession of drugs during the clean-up operation.

PINETOWN SAPS, business support and the municipality did a clean-up operation in the Pinetown CBD, including the taxi rank.

Pinetown SAPS communications officer said they have received a number of complaints about people thought to dealing in drugs and involved in crimes, loitering and sleeping in the town and under the bridges.

“The operation, led by the new station commander, Brigadier Mandla Mhlongo, began from Harvey Road, under the bridge and railway line, and proceeded to taxi ranks and the Esibayeni area,” said Maphumulo.

Cupboards and plastic houses under the bridges were removed.

“The search continued in the taxi rank and two people were arrested for possession of drugs,” said Maphumulo.
