KHBA blossoms into a bright 2017

The organisation aims to maintain the natural beauty in and around the Hillcrest area and are calling on residents to get involved.

THE Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association, a non-profit organisation, aims to continue and expand on its current projects throughout 2017.

The association is run by a dedicated group of volunteers who oversee the running of the popular recycling centre which, according to is chairman, Marge Mitchell, creates jobs, helping to alleviate poverty as well as encourage residents to care for the local environment.

The group also has its heart set on beautifying the area as they have adopted the park in Elizabeth Road in Westriding, continue to maintain a section along Old Main Road and Inanda Road and host the exciting verge competition, which is open to businesses and residents alike.

“We employ five previously disadvantaged people and pay them from funds received from recycling and from fundraising as well as sponsorship and membership fees. We are so grateful and give thanks to our sponsors and members,” said Marge Mitchell.

The anti-litter campaign as well as the removal of alien invasive plants, graffiti and illegal signage from municipal grounds are a few of the other projects hosted by the hard-working committee. “With the capacity for service delivery stretched to the limit in many parts of eThekwini, our KHBA volunteers do what they can to assist the municipality in maintaining Hillcrest as an attractive and appealing destination.

“We appeal to residents, companies and organisations to keep their home and work areas clean and litter-free,” said Marge.
