Cllr Van Den Berg shares 2017 plans

Cllr Chris van den Berg's plans for this year places are set to uplift Queensburgh.

WARD 63 councillor, Chris van den Berg, said his plans for this year are all about ensuring the smooth sailing of things in Queensburgh. He said his focus will be on restoring the face of central places.

“I want to uplift the area, specifically the business part of it like the shopping centres in Malvern. I plan on working closely with the parks department including other departments to improve the look of the area into what it is supposed to be. This area is central to all the residents and has the biggest shops for quite a distance,” he said.

He said the better these areas look, the more likely they are to attract more tenants and create job opportunities which will be a great benefit to the rest of the community.

His agenda includes overseeing service delivery and meeting the needs of the community.

While dam levels remain unpredictable, he said the water shedding experienced in some areas were due to be serviced by different dams.

Water is a very serious issue at the moment. I know residents are doing their bit in trying to save water but eThekwini also has to come up with solutions to fix and repair burst pipes timeously. I urge residents to report leakages and burst pipes and if they don’t get repaired they must keep phoning and also let me know. I will not give up until the job is done,” he said.

Van Den Berg said that while there is a backlog regarding the cutting of overgrown lawns in some places, it was pleasing to know that the local parks department was getting it right.

“I will also work closely with the SAPS, Metro Police, neighbourhood watches and interested groups to uplift the community. There will also be an eradication of illegal signs, and adverts on stop streets, robots and light poles. Apart from a law infringement, they are just degrading to the area,” he said.

Van Den Berg said he will continue to fight for law enforcement to ensure that Queensburgh remains in tip-top shape.
