Times to look out for water tankers in Pinetown

There are six water tankers that will frequent New Germany and Clermont.

DESPITE desperate appeals for answers from residents, the eThekwini Municipality was evasive in their response to an official water tanker schedule.

eThekwini’s acting spokesman, Gugu Mbonambi, said, “The current drought has adverse effects on all municipalities. We are aware of the current water shortages in different parts of the city. The city is working tirelessly to ensure that all areas affected receive sufficient water. The city will continue sending water tankers to all affected areas until the situation improves.”

It is alleged that only one water tank was dispatched last Thursday to the New Germany area.

Ward 21’s councillor, Mfana Qwabe, has called in for three water trucks to cover the New Germany area and another three trucks for the residents in Clermont. He said the trucks will be roving around the two areas from 9am to 11am, 3pm to 4pm and again from 7pm to 9pm.

“This is to try an make sure that there is clean and drinkable water for those that are affected,” said Qwabe.

Ward 18 Councillor, Melanie Brauteseth, urged residents to continue to use water sparingly and to continue requesting the Municipality to send through water tankers. “We have had very little rain in the catchment areas and we need to conserve as much water as possible. Assist your neighbours where and when you can,” she said.

Yesterday the Highway Mail reported that the City planned to roll out stage three water restrictions across various parts of Durban, after the Mt Moriah Reservoir ran dry last week.
