ADT response officer killed in Westville

The guard was responding to an alarm in Matapan Road when two men ganged up on him.

AN ADT guard who was responding to an alarm in Matapan Road, Westville was shot dead early this morning. Westville SAPS communications officer, Capt Elizabeth Squires said the guard arrived at the house and did an external check and everything was in order.

“When he was leaving and going back to his vehicle, two men came out from behind a bush and apprehended the guard.”

Squires said the man tried fighting them off but was shot in the head.

“The residents heard the gunshot and alerted the SAP and security companies who stood off within seconds,” she said.

According to Squires, the owner of the house which the guard was responding to said the outside beams went off and triggered the alarm.

“They witnessed when the 38-year-old guard was overpowered and shot.”

The criminals fled with the man’s gun, company tablet and his wallet.

”Our deepest condolences to the family of this brave man,” said Squires.

A case of murder has been opened at Westville SAPS and the detectives are investigating. Community activist, Andreas Mathios posted on his Facebook page.

”The senseless killing in the Westville community of a ADT security guard whilst responding to an emergency call for help has been felt by everyone in the neighborhood watch industry. ProAct NHW , the residents and networks of patrollers wish to extend their heartfelt condolences to ADT management,staff and most importantly the family of the fallen hero who made the ultimate sacrifice.”
