SAPS K9 units seize suspect in Mariannhill

One of the men was found hiding in a man's yard in the area.

ONE suspect was arrested in Mariannhill last night in a joint operation between the Metro Police and the local K9 units.

According to community activist, Andreas Mathios Metro police were following a vehicle that appeared suspicious on the system.

“When they tried to pull the vehicle over it sped off in the direction of Mariannhill and came to a standstill outside a local shop in the area,” said Mathios.

Three men jumped out of the vehicle and fled in different directions.

Metro Police called for back-up and all SAPS K9 members in the area responded and searched for the suspects who had fled into dense bushy areas.

“Two men ran into bushes behind the shop. The other man ran towards Geelhoutweg Street,” noted Mathios.

The one man attempted to hide in someone’s yard but was spotted by a resident who alerted the arriving SAPS members.

The Shongweni K9, Umhlali K9 and the Durban South Dog Units surrounded the area and a coordinated search took place, together with the Metro Police.

The man hiding was found and arrested.
