Elderly man dies in Pinetown accident

According to reports, the man hit a pedestrian and fled the scene.

A MAN believed to be in his 70s, was killed last night, (Sunday, 15 January) when the vehicle he was driving in rolled on Old Richmond Road in Pinetown.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics found the vehicle parked on the side of the road and local authorities were already on the scene closing off the road.

“Paramedics assessed the man and found that he sustained numerous injuries and was declared dead on scene,” he said.

Meiring said authorities said the driver apparently knocked over a pedestrian.

“The driver then reportedly fled with authorities in tow. After a short distance, the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to roll,” said Meiring.

The pedestrian was apparently transported to hospital. Local authorities will be launching an investigation into this matter.
