Elderly man stabbed and beaten in Malvern

The man in his 70s was tied up while robbers ransacked his home.

AN early morning cup of coffee turned into a wild scramble which almost claimed the life of an elderly Flamboyant Park resident.

The man in his 70s was beaten and stabbed at about 6am on Thursday, 12 January.

“While having his coffee, four armed men barged in and accosted him. The victim, a Swiss national, had his door and burglar gate opened at the time. He was severely beaten and stabbed by the suspects before being tied up and locked into the bathroom,” said corporate communications officer for SAPS Malvern, W/O Radhika Marimuthu.

The robbers ransacked the house making off with household items and the resident’s car.

The car was later recovered by Malvern Crime Prevention officers, W/O Trevor Raghunandhan and Cst Protas Sibiya in Clermont.

The resident was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The robbers are still at large.

Station commander Lt–Col Reddy cautioned residents to have safety gates locked and to call the police in the event of any suspicious cars or people seen in the area.

“This call could save a life,” she said.
