Teens brighten up children’s ward

The caring duo spent three days of their holidays painting a children's ward in an underprivileged hospital in the Highway area.

THE children staying at Osindisweni Hospital were in for a treat as two teenage friends, Courtney Calder and Georgia Healey, helped to paint two children’s wards and the main paediatric corridor at the hospital.

“My mum’s an artist and she told me how drab and dull the wards were, and as we aren’t in school now, we thought we could help out,” said Georgia, aged 16. The two girls gave up three days of their holiday and left home at 6am each day to paint.

Dr Thandiwe Dlamini, a paediatrician at the hospital was delighted with the results. “Research shows that a stimulating environment has enormous benefits and this will make such a difference to those staying as inpatients,” she said.
