Don’t forget – Fuel hike set for midnight

Last chance to fill up your tank before fuel prices soar.

THE New Year is off to a rocky start as motorist are urged to brace themselves for the fuel hike on Wednesday.

From midnight tonight, motorists will be forced to fork out an extra 50 cents per litre while diesel prices are set to increase by 39 cents per litre.

This follows a slight relief for consumers in December, when petrol prices decreased by 20 cents per litre. Diesel costs dropped by 30 cents per litre.

According to the Department of Energy several factors have resulted in the price hike, one of which included an increase in the price of crude oil.

“South Africa’s fuel prices are adjusted on a monthly basis, informed by international and local factors. International factors include the fact that South Africa imports both crude oil and finished products at a price set at the international level, including shipping costs,” the department said in a statement.
