Learners unite for worthy cause

Two learners at John Wesley School urge Highway residents to save their bread tags and drop them off at the school in the new year.

GRADE 5 learners, Lee Van Tonder and Shaalin Pillay have been carrying the Bread Tag for Wheelchairs campaign flag at John Wesley School since they were in Grade 2.

Their commitment to raise the necessary funds for wheelchairs for those who cannot afford them has been commendable. They have collectively brought in more than 10 000 bread tags so far. It takes 200 bread bags full of tags that are packed into 10 black bags, or 200 kg of tags to bring in enough money through recycling to buy one wheelchair. Lee and Shaalin encourage the Pinetown community to save their bread tags and to deliver it to the school, 30 Bamboo Lane in Pinetown, in the new year to help with this worthy cause.
