Assistance sought for fraud investigation

The victims were approached by the fraud syndicate in December 2014.

PINETOWN Trio Task Team is making an urgent appeal to anyone who may have information that could help solve fraud cases.

“During December 2014, a fraud syndicate had approached a number of people in the Bayview, Chatsworth and Phoenix areas promising to arrange home loans and personal loans through various financial institutions.

“The syndicate members forced the victims to apply for cell phone contracts and took the actual handsets for themselves. Some of the applications for loans at various banking institutions were granted and the suspects allegedly pocketed seventy percent of the amounts granted for themselves,” said Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele.

An appeal is made for all victims whether a case was opened or not to contact the investigating officer, Lt/Col Myrin Ogle on 031 325 5030 or 082 556 8719.
