ADT keeps watch in Westville

The security company has installed a Licence Plate Recognition camera in Westville.

A LOCAL security company recently launched a new innovation which it believes will make a significant difference in the safety of the Westville community.

ADT Security installed its first Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) camera at one of Westville’s busiest intersections, Harwarden Crescent and King Cetswayo Highway, to further secure the community and assist in the fight against crime.

To launch the LPR camera, ADT had a stand on Lancaster Terrace (next to the SPAR) to help promote and create awareness about this exciting new technology. ADT staff were on hand to answer any LPR related questions and gave out popcorn and slush puppies to the community.

LPR technology captures a picture of passing traffic and identifies the registration number in its view. This information is then matched to the SAPS national database to detect suspicious or stolen vehicles. Proactive models that utilise advanced technologies, such as the LPR camera, not only assist ADT Security but also assist other key role players including the SAPS, CPF’s and other private security companies.

“ADT is currently subsidising the first LPR camera as we believe it is desperately needed by the Westville community, given the high number of recent incidents,” said ADT Security’s KZN district manager, Ivan Govender.
