Radio club interacts with the public

HARC holds monthly club meetings on the third Tuesday each month.

THE Highway Amateur Radio Club had a display at the Watercrest Mall to interact with people about the purpose of the club and to dispel any incorrect preconceived ideas they may have about this hobby.

Amateur Radio, was formed in June 1996 following the disbanding of the branches of the South African Radio League to allow for the formation of independent clubs.

“The purpose of the club is to further the interests of its members in all aspects of amateur radio and electronics. The club also aims to foster goodwill between radio amateurs and to promote amateur radio as a hobby and to offer backup communications in emergencies and during disasters,” HARC deputy chairman, Max Rossi.

The club holds monthly club meetings on the third Tuesday each month at 7.30pm at the clubhouse which is at the New Germany Sports Club 55 Broadway Street.

They also have swop shops or boot sales at the New Germany Nature Reserve on the last Saturday each month.

People who are interested in joining HARC can fill an online membership application at https://harc.org.za.
