Simon Peter Preschool celebrates 30 years

The school hopes to serve the community for another 30 years.

SIMON Peter Preschool in Hillcrest celebrated a special milestone this year – their 30th anniversary.

The school which is Christian based in its teaching approach opened its doors on the premises at the Hillcrest Baptist Church (HBC) for the first time in 1986. The pastor of the Hillcrest Baptist Church, Anton Hoffmann, heard that the Catholic Church in Hillcrest had closed their nursery school in 1985 and that parents were wondering what they were going to do. He asked Keith Brown, a HBC deacon, former teacher and now businessman to investigate opening a preschool on the HBC property so that the land and buildings could be used to the glory of God all week and not just on Sundays.

Today it boasts four qualified teachers and two assistants who, between them have social work and childhood development diplomas. It caters for children from 18 months to six years.
