Queensburgh Rotarians pamper children

The children at the King Dinizulu Hospital Children's TB ward were treated to goodies and fun games.

THE Rotary Club of Queensburgh has started a relationship with the Umduduzi Children’s Palliative Care Unit to assist children who are diagnosed with chronic illnesses.

Umduduzi provides direct palliative care services to children with life threatening and life limiting illnesses. The unit also teaches health professionals about palliative care for children.

They offer advocacy, clinical or medical services, community palliative care services, counselling/bereavement, education, family support, research, respite or hospice services and training.

Queensburgh Rotarians spent a morning at the King Dinizulu Hospital Children’s TB ward (which was known as King George Hospital) where they hosted a Christmas party. The children were treated to goodies, educational toys and games.

Rotarian Kwenzi Simelane said their relationship with Umduduzi was what led them to treat the children at the King Dinizulu Hospital.

“We also donated storage boxes for the children and we will keep in touch with Nobuhle Dhlomo from Umduduzi who works closely with the hospital to assist where we can,” said Simelane.

Matron of the children’s ward Nonhlanhla Chule thanked the Rotary Club of Queensburgh for the gifts.

“It was very nice and generous of them to spend some time with the children. The children had a great time and you could see the smiles on their faces. They forgot that they were in hospital and felt the love especially as it is the festive season,” said Chule.
