Unresolved water issue angers resident

The residents were without water for seven days and 11 plumbers were sent to fix the problem.

FOLLOWING seven days of living without water and having a temporary pipe installed after 11 plumbers were sent to fix the problem, Moseley Park resident, Cliff Harrison is concerned they will experience another water shortage soon. The residents from Highlands Park complex and few other houses were left without water from Thursday, 17 November until Thursday, 24 November.

“What made the situation more unbearable was the difficulty of getting the tanker to come to our homes. The plumbers who came to fix the problem would sign off the job as complete.”

“On some other days the water was released slowly but only in the mornings and residents had to wake up early to bath and it would be finished very quickly while others did not get a drop. I don’t understand why 11 plumbers had to be sent to do one job and still they have not identified what the problem is. Temporary pipes were installed and we are concerned that they could be damaged as pipes needs to be underground,” said Harrison.

eThekwini Municipality’s head of communications, Tozi Mthethwa said, “As a caring City, eThekwini Municipality has a dedicated team of staff members who strive to provide superior service to all City residents. Service delivery remains our key priority. The matter was reported to the relevant unit and is receiving urgent attention.”

She urged residents to continue reporting illegal water connections and water leaks to 080 131 3013 or send a message on the WhatsApp Water Reporting Line number, 073 148 3477.

“Residents can also send a SMS to 43554 when reporting water leaks or email Eservices@durban.gov.za. The quicker eThekwini Water and Sanitation (EWS) is informed about a leak, the quicker they can respond and address the matter to prevent further water loss,” said Mthethwa.
