Donation helps patients rest easier

The local organisation appeals to companies and residents in the Highway area to adopt a bed or to join the Hope Club.

COMPASS Cares, an initiative of Compass Medical Waste Services, has adopted a bed in the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust’s Respite Unit with a donation of R72 000.

The initiative aims to support organisations who are involved in caring for others and, according to Graham du Randt, operations manager for Compass, he believes in generosity and the heart of Compass Cares is to improve the quality of life of those who are vulnerable. “We have partnered with the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust’s Adopt-a-Bed campaign and the R72 000 donation covers the cost of a bed in its Respite Unit for a year,” said Graham.

The Adopt-a-Bed campaign received a lot of attention with World AIDS Day on Thursday, 1 December and Claire Hodgkinson, the marketing and fundraising manager at the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust, hoped the momentum will continue. “A total of R72 000 or a monthly donation of R6 000 for 12 months will go directly towards helping provide the very best care and treatment to the Centre’s Respite Unit patients so that they, in turn, have the very best chance of returning home to their families and leading full, healthy and productive lives,” said Claire.
