Chad bags second gold in Canada

The former Westville resident improved his own world record in the 100m butterfly.

CHAD le Clos won his second gold medal at the Short-Course Swimming World Championships in Canada on Thursday with a world record-setting victory in the 100m butterfly.

The former Westville resident improved his own world record of 48.44 set at the previous edition of the championships in Doha in 2014 with his time of 48.08 sec on Thursday.

American Tom Shields was second in 49.04 seconds and Australian David Morgan claimed bronze in 49.31.

Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu, a treble gold medalist in Rio, received her fourth individual gold of the championships in the 200m backstroke. She also won gold in 200m butterfly, 100m back and 400m individual medley.

Le Clos also won gold in the men’s 200m butterfly at the World Swimming Championships in Ontario, Canada on Tuesday, 6 December.
