THE Department of Energy announced at the weekend that the petrol price is to decrease by 20c per litre on Wednesday, 7 December.
This applies to both grades of petrol (93 and 95 octane), with the price of diesel decreasing by between 31c/l and 32c/l‚ depending on the sulphur content‚ while illuminating paraffin will cost between 28c and 38c less per litre and LP gas 17c less.
A Department of Energy representative said the Rand appreciated against the US Dollar during the period under review‚ on average‚ when compared to the previous period.
The average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate for the period 28 October to 1 December was 13.9125 compared to 13.9646 during the previous period. This led to decreases in the contribution to the Basic Fuels Price on petrol (by 2.02 c/l)‚ diesel (by 1.96 c/l) and illuminating paraffin (by 1.96 c/l).
