Westville Mall responds to Christmas decor removal

The mall will no longer be allowed to host events until the situation has bee resolved.

WESTVILLE Mall’s management has issued a statement regarding the order to remove its Christmas decorations.

Kellie Ettmayr, of Growth Point Properties, the owners of the mall, said, “For 22 years we have offered a family festive programme and photos with Father Christmas. We really want to continue this tradition and offer it to shoppers again this year again. However, as a public place, it is essential that we comply with the local fire and safety authorities that have declined permission for this community festive highlight.”

“We are officially seeking clarity as to why their requirements have changed so significantly from previous years, but we must respect their ruling.”

“We are dismayed by the situation and have been doing everything in our power to resolve the issue for months now. Unfortunately, until it is resolved, we will also be unable to host many of the community and charity events that our locals love and have come to rely on,” she said.
