Now in its 17th year, the mass charity ride congregates at the Pavilion with riders bringing a minimum of one toy each as the entry fee.

THE roof top parking at The Pavilion was abuzz with bikers from all around the province in the name of charity on Sunday, 27 November. Riders garbed in heavy leather with distinctive badges showed off their bikes of various shapes and sizes and quickly drew crowds at the mall, with some admirers taking photos with the bikers. The gathering was part of the formalities of the annual Durban National Motorcycle Toy Run, mobilising riders to do their bit for charity. Now in its 17th year, the mass charity ride congregates at the Pavilion with riders bringing a minimum of one toy each as the entry fee.

The KZN Motorcycle Federation road captains, in conjunction with RTI, Metro Police and SAPS, controlled intersections and on and off ramps along the route from the shopping centre, to the N3, and down the N2 South to Amanzimtoti.

The Toy Run ended at Lords and Legends at the Amanzimtoti Sports Ground, where there was entertainment for both adults and children, market stalls, and a president’s auction. Entry into the end venue was also a toy.

South Africa holds the world record and has broken the Guinness Book of Records for the largest number of motorcycles in one place, and the biggest Charity Toy Run in the World.

Information on the number of toys collected was not available at the time of going to press.
