Rosa retires after 41 years at the Post Office

Rosa Aberdeen started working for the Post Office in 1975 in Margate and moved to Queensburgh in 1991 after getting married.

AFTER a collective 41 years of service at the Post Office, the Malvern branch manager is retiring. Rosa Aberdeen said she has enjoyed her 25 years at the branch and will miss interacting with people.

“I have had the pleasure of knowing so many beautiful people. I am not leaving Malvern, so I will still see many of them around in the shops, but I want to thank everyone for the love and support in my years here at Malvern Post Office,” she said.

Aberdeen started working for the Post Office in 1975 in Margate and moved to Queensburgh in 1991 after getting married. “I was then transferred to the Westville branch and luckily someone from the Malvern branch wanted to swap places. I have been here ever since and made a home for myself.”

“I’ve been so blessed in the sense of having the best staff here. I’ve never had any problems with any of my colleagues, so when I say the best, I really mean it. I don’t easily say something is the best.”

Aberdeen said the most difficult times she’s had at the Post Office was when shares were sold to the public. “It was good for the business, a lot of people took interest and bought the shares but we had to work long hours, sometimes only going home at 8 or 9 in the evening,” she said.

So what’s next for Aberdeen? “I plan on volunteering my time to work with the elderly. I want to give back to the community because I wasn’t able to do so when I was working full time. I will also start a vegetable garden at home.”

Her last day at the Post Office in Malvern will be on Saturday, 31 December. “I want to wish every one a Merry and blessed Christmas and may 2017 be filled with lots of love and blessings,” she said.
