Moseley watch hosts AGM

Residents were cautioned to be vigilant at ATMs, to not accept help from strangers and to always use the machines guarded by security as those machines are the least likely to be tampered with.

MOSELEY Neighbourhood Watch (MNW) hosted its annual aeneral meeting at the Firwood Sports Club on Monday, 21 November.

Guest speaker, Capt Sthembiso Khambule of the Malvern SAPS, gave the residents insight on crime stats in the area and assured them that the police will ensure that everybody is safe during this festive season.

“We have taken it upon ourselves at the station to ensure that none of our members will be taking leave during the festive season to ensure that we have enough officers on duty night and day,” he said.

He also cautioned residents to be vigilant at ATMs, to not accept help from strangers and to always use the machines guarded by security personnel as those are the least likely to be tampered with.

Residents also had the chance to meet and interact with the new Ward 63 councillor, Chris van den Berg. He asked for the community to back him in bringing issues to his attention for his intervention.

“When you bring an issue forward to me, I make sure that I do not let go until it is resolved,” he said. Van den Berg also pleaded with the residents to attend ward committee meetings on a regular basis.

The watch’s executive council remains the same with the addition of two new members. Gareth Preen was nominated as the patrol and operations co-ordinator and Tyron Peters-Newman will be the security liaison person.

If you would like to join the neighbourhood watch to help keep Moseley crime-free, you can help the team by becoming a patroller or co-patroller, a road representative for your road, become a member of MNW or purchase a reflective MNW house sign with your house number on it, which helps SAPS and MNW patrollers find your house easier in the event of an emergency.
