Biker’s family call for witnesses

The Inchanga biker and his girlfriend were seriously injured in an accident on the R102 on Sunday, 27 November.

THE family of a well-known biker who was involved in a motorcycle accident on the R102 on Sunday, 27 November, are appealing for witnesses.

Fifty-one-year-old David Turner, (Bud) and his girlfriend, Karen King (49), who live in Inchanga Park, were on their way back from the annual Durban Motorcycle Toy Run in Amanzimtoti on the R102. It is believed two taxis were racing each other, when one of the taxis clipped Turner’s motorcycle. His girlfriend fell off the bike and the other taxi drove over her.

Pat Thompson, Turner’s mother said the two were seriously injured.

“David broke his right arm and had a serious gash on his leg. He was taken to a government hospital in Umlazi. His girlfriend, Karen, broke both her legs, fractured her pelvis and fractured her clavicle (collar bone). She is being treated at Entabeni Hospital,” said Thompson.

She said although the police were at the scene, she is appealing to anyone who witnessed the accident to please come forward.

“My son is well known in the off-road biking sector and previously owned the Chain and Sprocket in Hillcrest. Any information regarding witnesses would be of great help. You can contact me on 031 764 2418 or 083 762 7854,” said Thompson.
