Robbers pose as Telkom workers in Hillcrest

The men were armed and fled with jewellery and an additional firearm.

ARMED robbers posed as Telkom workers and held up a domestic worker in Hillcrest on Thursday, 24 November.

Blue Security’s operations manager, Brian Jackson, said the men knocked on the door of the home in Inanda Road and told the domestic worker that they were Telkom workers.

“The men told her that they had come to repair the landline and she opened the door for them. They held her up at gunpoint and fled with jewellery and a firearm, which they found on the property,” he said.

Jackson advised residents to warn their domestic workers about the dangers of opening the door for strangers who claim to be repairmen or municipal workers.

“Remind your domestic workers regularly to not allow anybody onto the property without first contacting you to check whether you are expecting a contractor to call at home and to check that any identity card presented is in fact legitimate,” he said.
