Alleged drug dealers out on reduced bail

The two men were arrested in Pinetown on Friday, 11 November for allegedly dealing in drugs.

THE two men arrested in Pinetown for allegedly dealing in drugs were released on a combined bail of R300 000 at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court last week.

Yaganathan Pillay and Kasan Naidoo, both Shallcross residents, appeared at the local court for dealing in drugs and for being in possession of unlicensed firearms.

The recovered drugs included 1 360 mandrax tablets, 38 000 heroine capsules, 760 ecstasy tablets, cocaine, tablets as well as 4kgs of powder that the police suspect to also be drugs. The street value of the confiscated drugs is approximately R1.8 million.

According to the Senior State advocate, Sasha Jacobs, the state was unopposed to bail.

The State had agreed on a bail amount with the defence, but the magistrate, Terrence Buthelezi, disagreed with the set amount of R300 000 for Pillay’s release resulting in a reduced figure for both men. It is believed that Naidoo’s family had rallied together to raise R150 000 for his bail but was granted R100 000 bail. Pillay was granted R200 000 bail.
