Armed robbers hit Pinetown business

Four armed men stormed the shop along Old Main Road.

BUSINESS owners have been warned to be vigilant following an armed robbery in Pinetown on Sunday evening. The armed robbers held up staff at a shop in Old Main Road in Pinetown just before 5pm yesterday.

“Four armed men held up staff at the premises and robbed them of cash, cellphones and a computer before they fled the scene,” said Brian Jackson, Blue Security’s operations manager.

Jackson advised business owners and staff to be vigilant and to report any suspicious vehicles or individuals near their premises.

“Criminals often spend time staking out their victims before striking, so it’s important to be security conscious and to report any suspicious activity. Be aware of your surroundings when opening up and closing the business in the evening because these are prime times for robberies,” Jackson said.

“There have also been several incidents recently where criminals have followed victims from the bank back to businesses or homes and robbed them of large sums of cash.

“With the Christmas season approaching, we advise business owners to rather use electronic transfers to pay suppliers and staff. Employees are also advised to be careful at ATMs and at banks and to avoid carrying large sums of cash,” added Jackson.
