Robber critical after Westmead shootout

There was a shootout between robbers and security officers at a business premises in Westmead.

ARMED robbers were shot at by security guards during a shootout in Westmead on Wednesday morning.

Blue Security’s operations manager, Brian Jackson, said a gang of seven armed robbers held up two security guards stationed at a business premises in Ficus Place at around 3.45am. “When our officer arrived on the scene, one of the robbers left the guard room and fired several shots at him. Our officer returned fire before calling for backup. The robber fled the scene.”

“Our officer investigated and found a security guard handcuffed inside the guard room at the premises. A second robber, who had been shot earlier by one of the security guards on duty at the business premises, was found lying injured at the back of the property,” said Jackson. Paramedics attended the scene and transported the injured suspect to hospital. No other injuries were reported,” he said.

Chitra Bodasing Harduth, the spokesman for ER24, said, one man was in a critical condition and one had minor injuries. She said the man in a critical condition had been shot multiple times and the second injured man had bruises on his arms and legs.

They were treated at the scene and transported to hospital. A third man was also taken to hospital for further assessment.

Jackson said the rest of the gang fled with computers.
