American missionaries spread hope at baby home

The seven missionaries from America helped rekindle hope for all the children, parents and volunteers at Baby Hope House.

SEVEN women from Georgia in America have embarked on the Adventures in Mission’s World Race, to minister to local organisations.

The World Race is a programme that takes young people around the world to serve the nations. They travel to 11 countries in 11 months and minister to local organisations. They began their journey in Lesothu in August, went to Swaziland in September and the Baby Hope House in Pinetown was their third stop (South Africa in October). They will visit Vietnam in November, Cambodia in December, Thailand in January, Nicargua in February, Costa Rica in March, Jamaica in April, Haiti in May and the Dominican Republic in June.

To travel on this World Race, the women had to do their own fundraising through various fundraiser events, such as benefit concerts, sponsorships and word of mouth.

Rachel Carlson said her group believes that this was a calling by God to help and serve humanity wherever they can. Kimmy Laumann said they also wanted to find new ways to grow within their intimacy with Christ. “We chose this journey to live out the gospel because we want people to see Christ through us,” said Morgan Foldes.

Jamie Dennis said she loved working at their place of ministry for October which was Baby Hope House in Pinetown. “I love working with children so this was an amazing opportunity for us to be better mothers in the future and also a great opportunity to work with Sonia and Lynne,” said Jamie.

Sonia Swinton and Lynne Pieterse are the founders of Baby Hope House, a place of safety for vulnerable children, which cares for abandoned babies. There are currently 10 children at the home – seven girls and three boys. Lynn said its been an absolute pleasure having theses women there, especially during the nights shifts. “Having them with us has enabled us to focus on other matters that needed our urgent attention and we are really going to miss them.”

Madies Goodwin said that the World Race Ministry has taught her that anything from feeding a baby to painting and preaching can be considered ministry, as well as there are opportunities both locally and internationally to serve.

Jillian Schinzing said: “I have been amazed at how much love I see in the children and how much love people have to offer. I have really enjoyed working at Baby Hope House.”
Jenna Hansen said: “We came here to help but it’s been amazing to see how much of a blessing these people are that we have come to help.”

The seven adventurers on a mission will travel to the next country on their list on Saturday, 5 November.
The Baby Hope House have requested a few items which will help care for the many babies they have. These include wet wipes, Purity (veggies and fruit for eight month old’s) and donations are always welcome. Contact Sonia or Lynne on 031 7081547 or e-mail sonlyn7@gmail.com
