Beautify your garden at conservancy plant sale

There will be a variety of indigenous plants on sale as well as homemade treats at the annual event.

THE Drummond Conservancy will hold its exciting annual indigenous plant sale on Saturday, 12 November at 150/3 Duiker Drive in Drummond from 9am to 2pm.

The conservancy has been in operation for more than 20 years and its purpose is to encourage residents to be pro-active in caring for the environment as well as eradicate alien invasive plants, and to replace these plants with appropriate indigenous flora.

“By promoting the increase in the variety and number of indigenous plants, birds and other wildlife in the area, the conservancy is creating corridors of green open space along river areas and between properties and fences. The conservancy also acts an environmental watch dog and reports problems to the relative authorities after consultation with the people involved,” said Felicity von Oettingen, of the Drummond conservancy.

The organisation also hosts educational events such as frog and bat evenings and the Walk on the Wildside, a hike through pristine veldt and ancient river beds.

The plant sale will offer a large range of beautiful, indigenous plants and trees, and there will also be local experts to offer advice on how to eradicate IAPs.

“A produce table will provide a variety of delicious, organic and locally made goodies from goats’ cheese to chicken flatties, differnt types of mayonnaise and pesto’s, to jams and pickles, free range eggs, crunchies, rusks and more,” said Felicity.

There will be live music and coffee or tea, home-made treats, beer, wine and soft drinks will also be available. No dogs are allowed. Contact Felicity von Oettingen on 083 777 9430.
