14 injured in taxi crash

The driver of one of the taxis was in a critical condition.

FOURTEEN people were injured when two taxis collided on the M1 in Mariannhill on Tuesday evening.

According to Russel Meiring, spokesman for ER24, the occupants of the taxis were walking around the accident scene when paramedics arrived. The driver of one of the taxis had numerous injuries and was in a critical condition. “Paramedics immediately began their treatment and provided him with advanced life support interventions,” said Meiring.

The remaining commuters were assessed and had minor to moderate injuries and were treated at the scene and later taken to RK Khan Hospital. “The cause of the collision is not yet known, but it is believed the wet roads were a contributing factor,” concluded Meiring.
