Society creates awareness for breast cancer

The fundraiser was a resounding success and much-needed funds were raised for the CANSA Association.

DOZENS of women gathered at the Queensburgh Islamic Society for its second Cuppa for CANSA awareness drive at the weekend.

“It is breast cancer awareness month and this event is to not only create awareness but to celebrate the survivors. A big thank you must be given to the general public for getting involved in the event,” said Zubeda Ayoob, a member of the society.

There was an informative talk by Dr Safoorah Rajah, a gynaecologyist and obstetrician, there was the opportunity to have blood sugar tests done, lucky draws and delicious treats to eat.

Rinelle Mudray, a community mobiliser for the CANSA Association, said, “Last year, they hosted such a wonderful event and it helped to create so much awareness. Most people don’t know where to go to have screenings done and they leave the event better informed and know what do do – even if you don’t have medical aid.”
