Originally from Port Elizabeth, more affectionately known as The Friendly City, Grant Morgan has been hailed as one of the country’s most celebrated coaches at amateur level. He has gained invaluable franchise experience during the 2015/16 domestic cricket season as the assistant coach for the Warriors. He joined the Hollywoodbets Dolphins team earlier in 2016 and hasn’t looked back.
Since graduating from Grey High School in PE, Grant has studied at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University and was a powerhouse club and provincial player.
His debut game was for the Eastern Province team against England in 1993/1994. He earned a combined 52 First Class and 40 List A caps during his time at EP and Northerns.
Grant began coaching full time in 2002 and has a united vision for his time with Hollywoodbets Dolphins team. He plans to set Kingsmead stadium on fire with some explosive cricket this summer!
As coaching is no longer about “giving orders”, Grant’s mission is to involve the whole team and getting everyone on the same page. “I give the team a plan and an outline in every process. I also communicate continuously.”
His strategy for the team involves encouraging a humble attitude, to continue to try and develop their game to be the best they can be and to strive for positivity. “A team that will be tested and pushed to the limit in various ways at all times, yet one that must somehow stick together and manage to produce the goods at our level,” he added.
He believes that Hollywoodbets Dolphins needs to play from the heart and celebrate their talent, knowing that they need to focus on the positives rather than the negatives. “We’d like to dedicate our efforts to our loved ones and to play and honour both past and future Dolphins teams,” he said.
The future of the team is in great hands and Grant hopes to continue the strong legacy that has been built. “We want to be the best team of our generation in SA and to be the best Dolphins team ever! That is our aim whether we succeed or not.”
His message to the fans for the upcoming season is:
