Busy intersection in Pinetown is a “death trap”

Pinetown resident calls for additional road signs at the busy intersection on Stapleton Road and the off ramp from the M13.

PINETOWN resident, Gert van der Linde, has expressed his concern about a busy intersection, which he believes is a death trap.

The road in question is the intersection of Stapleton and Eden Road, as well as an off-ramp from the M13.

“Motorists who are not from this area and are looking for the highway, travel on Stapleton Road and assume that the off ramp is a two-way lane. They don’t see the two ‘no left turn’ sign and end up driving up the off ramp from the M13, straight into oncoming traffic,” said van der Linde.

He added that the off-ramp has two lanes, but people assume its for two-way traffic. Many cars have often made this mistake and had to have either park on the left road verge or slowly reverse down the off-ramp back onto Stapleton Road.

“The higher you go up the off-ramp, the higher your speed, and this will increase your chances of a head-on collision,” said van der Linde.

Van der Linde is urging the relevant authorities to erect a ‘no entry’ road sign at the exit of the off-ramp to prevent any accidents.
