Queensburgh Christian Academy reaches 25 year milestone

Founder and administrator, Glen Marais, said as the school continues to grow, is he grateful to the Lord and looks forward to years to come.

QUEENSBURGH Christian Academy will be celebrating its 25th anniversary on Saturday, 12 November. According to the school’s founder and administrator, Glen Marais, in 1991 a number of parents desired an environment where children could receive a Christian orientated, character building and quality education.

“Under the leadership of Barry and Brenda Hill, and through various events, parents came together and discussed the feasibility of developing a Christian school. Within a few months, the school started with just 13 pupils,” explained Marais.

He said that since its founding days, the school has grown from strength to strength and has produced some of the best athletes and academics. “We have a different approach when it comes to teaching and learning at our school, our pupils are taught to work independently from Grade R. This allows them to work at their own pace and as a result, they produce good marks. The school has a solid foundation which has the strength to be a lasting school for years to come,” said Marais.

From having just 13 pupils during its founding days, today, the school has 120 pupils enrolled from Grade R up to Grade 12 and there are plans in place to expand. “The Queensburgh Christian Academy, presently situated in Hillary, has outgrown its facility and is in need of a new premises. Plans are almost complete to build a new and large facility to meet the demand of private schooling,” he said.

Marais said as the school continues to grow, he is grateful to the Lord and looks forward to years to come. “To my staff, a special thank you for your dedicated work. To the parents, we are equally thankful for your faithfulness and commitment to the school. Last but not least, I wish to thank my wife, Sheila for her valued love and commitment to our school.”

A 25 year celebration banquet will be held to raise funds for the school. For more information, contact Glen Marais on 083 799 3420.
