Queensburgh Clinic cares about the community

The clinic staff put patients first.

THE Queensburgh Clinic hosted an open day to teach the community about environmental health issues.

The first session was held in the morning to address new mothers about the importance of breastfeeding and immunization.

Queensburgh Clinic nursing services manager, Shirley Cary-Smith, said the clinic hosts health-related programmes regularly to ensure that the community they serve are able to take care of themselves and avoid illnesses.

The clinic held a second session in the afternoon to accommodate pupils.

“It is important that we also teach young people to take care of their bodies and encourage them to stay in school and put education first.”

Shirley said they also had nurses who visit schools for health education.

“Pupils are taught about family planning, nutrition, obesity, anorexia, bulimia and all other health issues that affects mainly young people,” she said.

One of the mothers, Mpho Mabaleka, said she had learnt so much about breastfeeding and taking care of her baby.

“The staff at the clinic put us first and also held these kinds of programmes when I was still pregnant.”
