Put your paws up for pug fundraiser

All small to medium dog breeds are invited to go along to the Pug Olympics in Hillcrest this October.

THE Pug Olympics, a fundraiser for Pug Rescue South Africa, will make its way to Durban on Sunday, 16 October from 10.30am.

The exciting event is at Fulton School for the Deaf in Hillcrest and the cost to enter is R20 for adults, R10 for children and dogs enter via a donation of Pedigree or Montego Denta Stix.

Once you’re in the venue, you can enter your pooches into the array of fun races that include the sprint, obstacle course, potato and spoon race and the best-dressed competition. Each of the races have varying entry fees.

Storm Veronie, a volunteer for the local branch, said the main reason for the fun day is to raise awareness for pugs. “Pug Rescue is a recuse organsiation based in Johannesburg with outreach throughout South Africa and it takes in injured, surrendered and abused pugs. It does fostering programmes and adoptions and looks out for all pug breeds. We fight for them because they don’t have voices and can’t tell us when something is wrong and we help them with that,” said an impassioned Storm.

There will be food and beverages on sale and the Pug Olympics is open to all small to medium breed dogs. All dogs need to be socialised and it is important to note that each dog owner must take along a lead and collar. To make a donation and to see the work the NPO does, visit www.pugrescue.co.za. Other donations of dog food, dog toys and blankets can be made on the day.
