VIDEO: Go pink, raise breast cancer awareness

Indie Golf Store and Kloof Country Club have challenged businesses in the Highway area and other golf courses to raise funds for breast cancer survivors.

INDIE Golf Stores and Kloof Country Club have challenged businesses in the area to support the Pink Trees for Pauline fundraiser.

According to Robyn Briggs of CANSA Durban Care Centre, Pink Trees for Pauline and CANSA collaborated in the 2015 project to make the drive to raise funds for cancer communities throughout South Africa a success. These two organisations continue their partnership this year. CANSA implemented the project in more than 40 towns last year.

“CANSA is excited to be partnering again with Pink Trees for Pauline campaign this year, with the aim to raise valuable cancer education awareness and also to raise funds for cancer patients that are currently fighting cancer,” said Briggs.

Last year, the campaign raised almost R150 000 which was used to purchase wheel chairs, walkers and egg shell mattresses for cancer patients. Money was also used for transport costs to and from treatment centres and hospitals as well as accommodation at the CANSA Care Homes.

Funds raised from the Pink Trees for Pauline 2016 campaign is being set aside for accommodation during cancer treatment, home-based care nursing, feeding schemes for cancer affected patients, training social workers and also for supplying wigs, prosthesis and wheelchairs.

When Stephen Van Den Heever from Indie Golf Stores and Kloof Country Club heard about the fundraiser initiative from Robyn Briggs, he wanted to approach all the businesses in Kloof area and the Kloof Country Club members to create awareness. He decided to wrap each tree trunk at the Kloof Country Club in pink material to create awareness and the money raised through donations and pledges will be given back to the community in the form of services offered by CANSA Durban Care Centre.

“This fundraiser project is close to Indie Golf Store, but I believe every person at some stage in their life has met someone who is affected by cancer. What better way to show your support to those battling this illness than by supporting this fundraiser,” said Van Den Heever.

He has challenged businesses in the Highway area as well as other golf courses to take up the challenge and stand in solidarity for breast cancer survivors.
