Community control room to help secure Pinetown

The key function of the control room is to facilitate communication between the neighbourhood watches to decrease criminal activity.

IN a collective effort with local neighbourhood watches in Pinetown, ADT Security launched a community control room that links all crime prevention stakeholders via a radio channel.

The control room is manned by two full-time operators to ensure that once a concern is raised within the community, all role players including ADT and the relevant neighbourhood watches are immediately informed. “The key function of the control room is to facilitate communication between the neighbourhood watches during incidents or operations to decrease criminal activity,” said the district community development manager for KZN, Rian Buys.

The community control room board consists of a chairman, secretary and an ADT representative who facilitate regular meetings between members from the various neighbourhood watches.

The chairman of the community control room committee is Justin Bosse. “Due to great communication between neighbourhood watches and key role players, we are able to take a step forward in combating crime in our areas.

“We have already seen positive results with the recent apprehension of a suspect in Nelson Drive in Ashley and in a separate incident a dog fight in Hatton Estates was brought under control,” said Justin Bosse.

The direct radio contact between active neighbourhood watch patrollers within the greater Pinetown area, SAPS, emergency services and security services, has made it accessible for residents to lodge a query or report any suspicious activity in the area.

“ADT is delighted to see positive results already from this initiative and look forward to the progressive impact that the community control room will have on the safety of our community,” concluded Rian.
