Westville couple survives shootout with armed robber

Four shots were fired at a Westville resident and his wife when an armed robber attempted to enter their home.

A WESTVILLE couple escaped unscathed after a shootout with an armed robber at their home yesterday.

Blue Security operations manager, Brian Jackson said the robber had fired a shot at a security guard who was patrolling a property in Scone Place just after 4.30am.

“The robber fired a shot at the security guard who had gone to investigate after hearing a home alarm go off in the complex. The shot missed the security guard but the robber then lunged towards him and held him up, robbing him of his cellphones and cash,” he said.-

Jackson said a Westville resident, who had just arrived home and left his front door slightly open for his cat, heard the shot and was about to go and investigate when the robber pushed open the door.

“The robber pointed his firearm inside the house and fired four shots at the resident and his wife but missed, hitting the furniture and walls. The resident then returned fire and the suspect turned and fled the scene,” he said.
Westville SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
